Local Caterer Finds A Way To Keep Cooking During Covid-19
–Paso Catering Co. has found a creative way to stay open during a time when their regular clients are unable to use their services. Owner/Chef Trish Jacobs has reworked the menu to include Meals To Go, which feed families of four for affordable prices.
Like many local businesses heavily reliant on out of town clients and large events, Paso Catering Co. found the quickly changing landscape of social distancing and stay at home orders in March to be disastrous for business. After watching client after client cancel orders or postpone events indefinitely, Trish Jacobs decided it was time to look at her business from a new perspective.
Jacobs took her passion for good food and belief that food is its own kind of medicine, and redirected her 35 years of catering experience to focus on the SLO County community. She introduced her Meals To Go menu at the beginning of April, with plans to change her offerings each month.
Jacobs went a step further with a catered family brunch for Easter. The community response was beyond expectation, and required bringing in a team for meal preparation. Jacobs stated, “It has been amazing to be serving people in my community. I have orders from people who would have never considered my services in the past, and now look forward to sharing meals I’ve made at home with their families.”
A long-time believer in giving back, Jacobs provided snack packs to be delivered along with wine made by her husband, Jac Jacobs, by the Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards team to local hospital staff. Jacobs stated, “These doctors and nurses are working long, stressful shifts, and I wanted to provide a little healthy energy boost.”
